The car is a 1999 323i (10/98 build date) e36 convertible. Engine runs great after I pulled the engine for a head gasket. I used my Snap-On MT5200 Red Brick to clear a few codes I set by powering the car up and starting it without the O2 sensors connected. The car drove and shifted well before I pulled the motor.
Now I have a transmission light on (along with an ABS and traction control light, but that was there before) and the transmission is locked in third gear. No shifting whatsoever.
I do not have the BMW cartridge for the MT5200, and I don't feel like investing anymore money into it.
I had a few items recommended to me by members on here. would these items be a good purchase for my needs?

Or would something like this be easier to use?

I would like to be able to scan the DME, the transmission controller, and the ABS/SRS controllers.
Those usb cables are useful but not in your case. They connect to the OBD2 port. The only module you can connect to through that port is the dme. All other modules have to be accessed through the round 20 pin port in the engine bay. Using that port requires a scanner that has the correct adapter for that port.
If you know someone with an older laptop that has a serial port you can buy an ADS cable and instal INPA on the laptop.
I have the BMW cartridge and ADS adapter for your snap on scanner. I'd be happy to let you borrow it but I would need you to cover shipping and I'd need a pretty large deposit.

I ended up ordering all three of those items. I may have an serial data port laptop in with my Megasquirt stuff. I will DM you about the cartridge.
