thinking about updating the 740. Questions and suggestions

Hi. I have a 97 740i and don't like the dull lights compared to the newer model 01 crystal tails and scalloped headlights. Does anyone know if they will fit in this model. That looks like the only difference. I just want my car to look newer. Any suggestions. Also, thinking about some wheels. Don't want to make it too flashy (no chrome) prefer simple but nice. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, i'm a sucker for a deep dish.
    Thanks
    Sam

Okay. If you want a headlight upgrade, you will need to renew your front fenders. The Housing of the turn-signals is smaller on the Facelift car. You could also fill up the gap and repaint the fender, or you would cut out your original turn-signal, paint that, and take it to fill the gap that will emerge using the new turn-signals... So thatīs three options right there... You will need:

A new headlight cover (glass) 2x
A new headlight interior (plastic) 2x
A Facelift metal strip (painted) below the headlights 2x
    New turn-signals 2x

    New or modded fenders 2x

If you want to complete the facelift, you will also have to renew the lower door seals and add the factory side skirts (I would definitely do that! Gives a smooth look!) and you will have to get crystal clear rearlight assemblys and the chrome bar on the trunk.

The crystal clear rearlight assemblys will just fit in. Just drop them in!

Wheels? Iīd go for 19" Type 95 E65 rims, or 20" Alpina classic. Both look extremely nice on the car. Or you get some nice IFORGED wheels. There you could go up to 21"...

I included a pic of my VM7. Itīs standing on 19" Type 95, lowered by 3,2" front and 1,5" rear...

    Cool

    Marc pretty much nailed it.

So, in the end, this upgrade is not that simple nor is it cheap. But it's doable...

With regard to wheels, I too have the Style 95s. If deep dish is your thing, the Rondell 58s may be your wheel of choice...

Don't forget that the side skirts and lower portion of the front and rear should be painted body color to match the 2001 look. Earlier years had them painted in black.

If you do get the newer side skirts, make sure to get a new style jack and jack pads for under the car. The old style ('98 and earlier) fits in holes that get covered up by the new side skirts and there were round jack pads under the car. The new style ('99 and later) has a different jack that fits into the jack pads under the car. The jack pads are rectangular and have notches for the jack.
