I noticed today my vacuum advance is jammed and isnt moving my distributor after testing with a vacuum pump. I see some new ones at autozone but was wondering if anyone has tried these out.
Here's a thread I had bookmarked on disassembling a distributor that might help you take it apart if you do decide to try.

Make sure the breaker plate is moving if it was stuck the advance unit wouldn't move

Im sorry for my ignorance on the parts terminology but is that the arm that comes out of the vacuum mechanism? I noticed the rubber grommet from my pertronix kit was blocking the movement a bit now i got it to move about a a quarter of an inch would this be enough travel?
Is the plate moving? Remove the advance unit and test it
With the advance removed i can move the distributor plate.
I can also pump up the advance unit and see the arm move but i see on my vacuum pump that itll get up to 20in then drop slowly, could this be a source of a vacuum leak?
Once installed again it seems jammed which is wierd because I never really messed with it.
My vacuum unit had a leak around the inlet nipple - it was slightly loose. I fixed it with a little blob of epoxy.
Put a hose on it and draw air from it-inhale, you should hear a crackle or a tapping noise as the diaphragm flexes when the vacuum is released if it does not hold the vacuum created replace it. This is testing the vacuum advance. When these go bad generally the diaphragm is cracked.

I have a good spare one used, I got an New BMW Group One for $15,,oops $30,, and installed on spare Dizzy I rebuilt ,, now much more. I put up a link to get this when I found them on ebay from a BMW dealership, he whom hesitated got lost, they took it down after a short while, there were 4 of them. Buying BMW Group parts is like an obstacle course with gates, once its raised, one needs to step lively or pay the full freight later. German Authorities have a small sense of humor. Many places listed it as NLA--they are lazy.
The link on BMW Group Vacuum advance , ect circa 3 / 2016 realoem shows these are now NLA , 05/20/2018 (ENDED)
