Rare Find but cant get it going

    Hey everyone,

I have picked up a 79 635csi from my work it has been sitting for around 8 years without being run. It is originally from the uk, it is RHD with the dogleg 5 speed also the M90 engine.

Now i can get it to turn over but not get it to fire. I have pushed the afm flap open to check the fuel pump works and its whizzing away as it should.

I have pulled the combo relay out and to me it looks buggared but im guessing if the fuel pump powers up and the relay is clicking away then its fine.

I will be checking for spark tomorow is there anything else i can look for or is the problem my relay??

    Photo added of relay

    Thanks all.

This should help diagnose the problem.

I would definitely check all the barrel fuses inthe fuse box, back in the day we would have cars towed in because of crud build up on the tangs that held the fuses.

For some reason the link doesn't work for some people. Just try typing in hiperformancestore.com and find the page.
What browser are you using by the way?

There's a wiring diagram for the '80 in this thread over at BigCoupe.

According to that diagram, the coil gets power via the ballast resistor, powered off one of the starter output terminals. The Jetronic engine control unit grounds the other leg of the coil to fire the plugs.

The Motronic controls the ignition, but the Jetronic has dedicated ignition module, old style big aluminum box or more modern black plate with 2 connectors. The Jetronic has no dedicated crank/cam sensors and receives the RPM signal from the ignition module.

Ah, that would explain why the wiring diagram shows an "Fuel Injection Control Module" and an "Engine Control Module". I stand corrected!

Now, go & get that car running and post some more pics!

Ended up being the fuel pump in the end it’s all going now and driving I’ve since done oil and filter bled brakes with fresh fluid all through replaced the leaking frost plug found this just after I got it going. New fuel filter new combo relay. And a good polish this weekend came up great.
