    Should my E36 M3 have a front underbody X-brace?

I'm confused. I've seen M3 underbody pix online that show an X-brace below the engine. In pix of other M3s there isn't one. My new-to-me 1995 M3 doesn't have the X-brace but it does have tapped threads in the floorpan where you would expect the rear of the X-brace to mount.
Are these things standard on E36 M3s and maybe a previous owner removed it?
Are they standard on some versions/model years and not others?
    Is it an aftermarket part?
Does anyone have one for sale?

Any enlightenment would be much appreciated!

They are standard for E36 Convertibles and the Z3.
Around mid 1995 all E36 chassis got the nutcerts.

Great, thanks! That's a relief. Think I'll see if I can find a used one to buy.

You will not be sorry you added one. Mid corner ‘stick’ is notable.

    LOL! from the gargistic page.
" However, that OEM piece is expensive, ugly, and requires front subframe modification (nutserts) to be able to use. We took all of those things into design consideration and came up with the Garagistic E36 X brace."

OMG...the gargistic part looks like a high school welding class project. the oem part does not. subframe modification? not..oem just requires sticking some nutserts in existing holes. that is not a modification.

That garagistic piece does look like a high school project,
or even some Chinese aftermarket junk.
Go OEM - NEW or USED

Looks like it picks up the ‘lollipop’ attach fasteners.

Interesting approach, and does not have the finished appearance of the OE X-Brace.
