lol. Reminds me of the diabetes bit on Family guy.

My eyes. If you can’t verify the head condition yourself, have the machine shop doing the work go over it. Pressure testing is how they will do it if visual isn’t enough.
Soon.
Looks like cyl 1,2,3,4,5,6 are cracked. How was this tested?
Lol. Good one.
Lol! Love it!
Had originally purchased an Elring from Rockauto, but ended up getting a factory BMW one from the dealer. Better safe than sorry on a part like that.
I was going to make a joke / question about the cardboard but you folks already beat me to it. Haha.
Looks awesome!
doh that went right over my head
Factory is Elring. The issue is if it is actually branded Victor Reinz or Elring. BMW sold doesn’t mean anything, it’s either going to be Elring or Victor Reinz if new stock.
Victor Reinz bought out Elring and anything after 2020 is likely to VR inside the Elring packaging. If you have VR, consider looking for an original Elring gasket. They are a better gasket. Having the BMW logo on a VR gasket is a downgrade.

Did you ever receive the passenger front door cards you ordered a while back? Just curious what the status is on those...
I did. I have all new front and rear panels, just waiting for ASC Fabrics to get M Cross fabric back in stock. Been very busy with work and it's been tough to find time to work on the car, but will have time around Christmas.

Much overdo update. Long story short, had a change at work and moved. All good things, but had to take a break from working on the car. Had some minor things up on the 996 that needed sorting too.
Had the following vapor honed at UrbanEast Cycle in Lorton:
-oil filter housing
-oil pan
-engine mount brackets
-timing cover
I also had Turner Motorsport front subframe reinforcements welded in, then had the front subframe powdercoated by Extreme Powdercoating in Springfield. They did a phenomenal job, highly recommend.
Lastly had GTPeace weld in the Turner Motorsport oil pan baffle kit. I like this kit as it uses the OE BMW trap doors from the E30 M3.
You'll notice the steering rack looks a bit different. That is an OEM BMW manual rack (part # 32111138198) I picked up used off Schmeidmann and is off a Euro market 316i. Now this was obviously used in an economy application and not a performance one so I am holding onto the ZHP rack for now as I have no idea if it's actually any good (good chance it isn't). But the thought of further simplification and weight reduction made it worth trying to me. Race German sells the correct size accessory belt if you are interested.
Laid everything out and am working through the pile. Naturally as I am going through I'm finding more hardware to order, so at the moment just waiting for a few parts to arrive at the dealer.
Cylinder head is ready to go back on. Will install the cams on the car as with the Schricks it is tough, if not impossible, to torque the head studs if they are installed
Installed:
Supertech single groove valves x 24
Supertech Valve stem seals
Supertech single lock valves
Supertech valve lock keepers
11341403709 x 24 - Valve Springs
11341432453 x 24 - Valve Spring Retainers
11341403612 x 24 - Valve Spring Seats
New bronze guides on exhaust side
785501 - Supersprint M52/S52 headers
Elring exhaust manifold gaskets
11721437202 x 24 - N5X manifold nuts
11127593376 x 24 - N5X manifold studs (makes install a breeze)
NTK O2 sensors x 2
11317838675 - INA primary chain tensioner
Elring primary tensioner gasket ring
11121717432 - water flange
11121738963 - water flange gasket
07119906123 x 2 - water flange bolts
Uro thermostat housing (quality seems much improved over the one I bought a couple years ago)
423675 - Borg Warner 75*C thermostat
Elring thermostat housing gasket
Elring thermostat o ring
12141703221 - camshaft position sensor
12141748398 - camshaft position sensor o ring
13627545338.- camshaft position sensor bolt
13621703993 - coolant temp sensor
07119963130 x 2- temp sensor & water hose connector gasket ring
11121740396 - water hose connector
MSportParts Schrick intake manifold gasket
I did also replace 11121735180, the oil pressure noreturn valve as it does have an o ring you can't purchase separately. Question- does orientation and tightening spec matter for this? I just tightened to reasonably snug, obviously don't want to over tighten as goes into the aluminum head.

Are you still using stock hydraulic lifters? I went with Perrys solid lifter conversion in the S52 that is in my HPDE car and they are well worth the time to install and adjust.

This thread serves as such a great referece point and road map for newer owners like me. The attention to detail and listed part numbers are invaluable. Thank you and hats off to @sirhodjibob for documenting your work.
Curious... any plans to coat the headers?
