1600 TI 1967 seat belts, headrests

Hey, I just signed in and I'm lost and confused.....and maybe too stupid for this because? I don't know how this forum works. It's a nice welcome, thanks for that. I have a 67, 1600 with dual webers, a lovely car that I've owned for 40 years, restored once. Here's a photo, never mind that, too stupid to do that (asks for url?)

I have the stock seats without head rests and seat belts. Now, it seems my partner (safety oriented) won't ride unless we have shoulder belts and head rests. As much as I love the old slide in seats that don't hold you in place at all, maybe the time has come to put more comfortable seats in. At the same time I could put a modern retractable 3 point belt. While my 1967 1600 only has seat (lap) belts, I bought the car from Gene Underwood, the service manager of an Iowa BMW dealership (Cedar Rapids?) and he may have had a dealer auto shop tech weld in a location at the factory approved spot below the rear quarter window. It's been so long, but when I first laid eyes on this car, Gene may have been running a stiffener bar across behind the seats. In any case I can feel threads behind the whole in the interior panel.

Question, what would be the appropriate seat to install that would fit on my rails and also do any of you have recommendations for the seat belt. I don't think I want the old stock seat belt that probably is no longer available.

How will I know if a reply is made to this post? Will my email show a response? Sorry guys, I'm more of a driver than a computer wiz. Sure wish I could post a photo of my car.

    Welcome to the forum, Harry
I separated your post from the other thread and made a separate thread for you, so it will be easier for you to find it.
To subscribe to this thread, , on the top of this thread you see " Thread Tool", when you click on it a window opens and you can subscribe. In the settings on top right you can adjust the system and various options are there.
As you have so far only 1 post, it may take time when you post again till you can see your post, because up to 10 posts a moderator has to approve posts manually, this is the forum spam-o-matic system. Just upload the pics on a free upload server and post the link here. You can also try first the test forum to post pictures https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/f...hp?123-Testing
uploading from your own PC is also possible, then go to the "go advanced" on the right side bottom and then an extended window open where you can upload your picture, try it first in the test forum, when it works, you always can drag that pic, now stored on the forum server, into any other post you make. You will soon get used to it, just try.

    Hello Harry,

I have an early 67 1600, and it came with the seat belt mounting location at the piller just below the window height. I've never seen a car without it. At some point during the 70s (I think it may have started with the square light cars) BMW moved the mounting location higher up on the pillar. I think this is the time they went with the retractable seat belt. At the rear the car only has lap belts. But, at the front my car has shoulder belts as well. I'm using the belts from a 68 model because when I obtained the car the belts were missing. Evidently somebody had removed them, probably because the very early cars (66-early 67) had a unique looking "Clamshell"buckle belt.

The Recaro seats from the 320i "S" package are a direct fit. If you can post pics of your car, that would be great. I always liked the early cars. my early 67 is "Bristol". I've installed "66" trim on it.

    Slavs
