Wanted: Early Style Passenger Power Mirror

    Hi all,

I'm looking for a passenger-side early style power mirror for my 1978 323i, BMW part # 51161843052 - these were found on various 70's models of E3, E9, and E21.

Please PM me if you have or know of one for sale!

    thanks very much,
    David

Here's a photo of the type I need (except for passenger side, not driver side)

Is the E12 mirror the same as the one you have pictured? If so that right side mirror is as rare as hen's teeth. Lol

Yes, it's the same as early e9 & e12. I see pairs on ebay once a year or so and they're ridiculously expensive.

Unfortunately the set screw is kind of a bad design, it seizes up over time and there's no way to use heat to remove it, and drilling seems basically impossible without destroying the threads like I did on my old one.

I would consider switching to manual mirrors but they're ALSO ridiculously expensive.

Here's another photo, there seems to be a little confusion - I'm not looking for the type that mounts to the front corner like later models.

From what I can see in your picture the set screw appears to be similar to the method used for the manual mirrors. Anti-seize on the threads of the set screw is definitely your friend. I have several of the left side manual flag mirrors complete with mounting gasket, mounting bar, cage nuts, and screws. I do not have any right side mirrors unfortunately. Hard to believe in the mid 80's flag mirrors were $20 each!

Yes the set screw is exactly the same deal as with the manual mirror.

Anti-seize when installing for sure, and a little blob of silicone over it because the rubber gasket flap thing is just for looks.

I have an extra left side mirror and I have a pair of manual side view mirrors...if you are interested in selling that electric right hand side mirror I’m willing to buy or trade.

I was actually looking for a right-side power mirror, and eventually found one from a fellow in the Netherlands.

He shipped it several weeks ago but it hasn't arrived yet

Someone else on the facebook group did offer me a NOS passenger power mirror for I think $400, which was more than I could afford. I'll refer you if that is more up your alley!

Thanks! I am looking, but $400 is just wow! That’s almost more than I paid for the entire car...lol. Yes, please pass on his contract information...it’s the beginning of a conversion at least. I have two sets of manuals but I have the wiring for both sides and I’ve got the drivers side...so! Yeah. Thanks again...

Was it Ivo? Because if it is I wouldn’t worry about it at all. He’s an excellent seller

I'm not worried about it, he sent me a photo of the tracking number and shipping receipt. There are several packages at this point that are a week or more delayed from when I expected them, tracking info all showing to be with the shipper.

I just checked tracking on the mirror, looks like last thursday it cleared customs and was forwarded on.

I've been looking for one for years. Found one in Europe over three years ago, but the guy didn't want to ship. It was over 400.
