    Interior Renewal

I sold the e32 and got a 1991 525. Having some time on my hands, wanted to re-do the interior, went a bit extravagantly this time, suede / velvet like material, soft, but difficult to work with.

It is more work and time than what you might think, still a long wag to go. Some pics. Only installed the rear deck, other A, B and C pillars almost there, 95%, but roof need to be fitted first. Will be one of a kind...

I redid my pillars and headliner in fake suede a while back. Soft, not very stretchy. I tried four different glues, none of which gave perfect results (concave surfaces requiring stretch were the hardest) but Loctite Heavy Duty was by far the best. It didn't have that cool pattern, though!

Hoping to install the roof lining tomorrow. Different variation on the grab handles.

Huh. I forgot about this thread but just last night was chilling in my wagon, contemplating solid material for the pillars and a diamond pattern for the headliner.
The grab handles look great. Pillars... turned out well, a bit fussy visually IMO. Parcel shelf I would redo. Can you link to the material you're using? What about glue?

So I installed the roof today...still busy with the pillars to install properly. I did use glue, general contact type, but the approach was to fix the material with stitches in places where glue would separate over time, the glue therefore only support the material in places. That is the main reason it took so long to get done, since every stitch is done by hand and secured at the back.

I would say, for me, it actually looks better in real life vs the pictures, and come out better than expected.

That headliner turned out great! Yeah, I'm sold; doing the same to mine when that project comes around.

All panels now fitted, I am more than happy with how it came out. Started to clean seats and reinstall. Next would be to cover the panel around the gear lever. I also want to come up with a plan for the automatic shift lever - some sort of cover, similar to new vehicles - the black plastic cover, although in good condition, looks old and outdated - I have now anyways moved beyond original fitted panels...

Any ideas on a cover for the shifter? - I can not seem to find a good picture for a custom cover for a e34 or e32.

What do you think? I still need to push everything down, where the gear lever black top will cover the stitched portion on top...I wanted to get rid of the black plastic cover, this may work.

Reminds me of my favorite thing to eat...

The pattern is nice, but IMO there's too much of it.
