    Z3 Front air dam

The front air dam on my car needs some work and the left and right pieces are shot. Is it necessary that they need to be on the car? I read something where is helps with cooling but just wondering...

Yes, help direct air for cooling and provides protection against rocks or other objects.

I’m looking to do a fan delete on my S52 Roady but all the lower front plastic bits are missing and I’m trying to figure out what to buy. The Mototorsports kit looks good but I think it will leave a gap under the radiator for air to by pass. Real OEM is confusing as far as part # s for this. White Z what is the part # for the picture you posted? As far as I can tell part # 51712491034 is the part I need but I can’t tell if it includes 51712496714. It looks like they are together in the photo you posted.

The part I show in the picture is BMW # 51718397359
The two ducts that attach to the side of that air dam are:
The part that I show in the picture is
    BMW #51718397359
There are two ducts that go on each side
    Right Side #51718401824
    Left Side #51718397357

Thanks for the reply. The photo looked like what I need but it seems the M uses a different part. Guess I’ll have to get one and see what it looks like.

The difference between the M and regular Z is a z-bend to follow the M profile. It works just fine with the regular bumper, and is far superior to the OEM plastic piece.
You can use the MM underpanel as is, you can also flatten in a bit in the front to make it a bit easier to install.

How close does the MM air dam come to the radiator? I have no plastic bits left under the front end. It looks like there would be seveal inches I would have to fill to force all the air through the radiator. 6FD2F2FB-76A3-49A4-AF46-5509E8CBAD51.jpg

White Z, I'm in a similar situation as you (in that i'm missing the front BMW air duct, part number 51718397359). The Motion Motosport kit pwhitt mentioned has also been something i've been thinking about (in part because its not plastic, and its cheaper). The transmission cooling lines are pretty exposed with any sort of protection it seems.

I'd be curious what you end up doing, and / or if anyone has any experience with the Motion Motosport kit as a more affordable improvement.

I put some J-B weld on the areas that were cracked and after it dried I used a very heavy industrial strength duct tape to cover over it then mounted it back on the car. It seems to work and it's holding.

Yes you will need to add ducting to fill the gap between radiator and MM panel

Robb did something clever awhile ago and bent some flat stock to a triangle of the correct height (so it went to the radiator) and riveted it to the panel

When I got my car the under panel was missing also so I ended up buying .125 aluminum sheet and maked me a splitter. I had it powder coated in crinkle black.
