X5 E53 TPMS "Main Antenna" Location

Can anyone please tell me where this antenna is for an E53? I looked at chassis under front seat, rear right, and just rearward of trans-axle. As you know this car does not have an RDC module in trunk. I believe the p/n is 6-744-043-02. Couldn't find it on realoem either. if you go to realoem, wheels, tire pressure system, it says not applicable to this vehicle, can't even find the receivers behind the wheels in realoem. Thanks for any help, Eric

Look at the rear most passenger window. You'll notice what looks like a heating element but there isn't a matching one on the drivers side. I haven't looked at the wiring that goes to it but I'm guessing that's it. It may also be integrated into the rear window defroster like the e36.

What is your model/model year? The e53 models built after 4/04 don’t use TPM sensors. It uses the RPA (indirect) system that uses the wheel speed sensors (ABS) to determine wheel revolutions.

If you used your VIN to look up the sensor...the reason the databases says not applicable because your e53 doesn’t have that system or you used the wrong part number (which you did).

BMW part Nbr’s have 11 digits (xx xx x xxx xxx)...and sometimes on small parts (like the one you pictured in your post above)...it will use the last 7 digits of the part number (x xxx xxx). There are NO hyphens ever used in the part number. In the pic you posted the last 7 digits of the part number is 6 771 043. And when you run that number through the part number search...the e53 does NOT come up as using that part number.

If you posted this question on the other forum...check your thread because I posted a chart that shows which e53 X5s uses the direct (RDC) timer pressure monitoring system.

thanks, that make a lot of sense, my X5 is a 2006 built in 11/2005. How does the (RPA) or (RDC) system you explained above know the tire pressure? Is the yellow tire icon on the dash due to low tire pressure, or something else? thank again, eric

Could be coming thru the wheel speed sensors, you could go to newtis and check wiring diagrams

Here’s some more info about the RPA (indirect) flat tire monitor system that uses the wheel speed sensors instead of TPM sensors inside each wheel.

See the instructions below on how to reset/reinitialize the system when you get the warning to check the tires air pressure and you put more air into the tires or if you replace/rotate a tire or adjust the pressure in one of the tires:
