Back story - care would not start from time to time, mainly during summer or hotter times. Only gets driven a few times a month. If it wouldnt start I would repeatedly smash the clutch (3-10 times) and it would eventually start. This went on for about a year until it would not start again. When i try to start all the lights come on, fuel pump is humming, does not crank what so ever.
I first tried bypassing the clutch switch, no change
I replaced the clutch switch, no change
at this point I assume the alternator, replaced with new and still doesnt start.
I only have one key to the car
Im lost now and not sure what to try next, I was 99% it was either the clutch switch (since it would start after smashing it) or obviously the starter...
Any suggestions or advice?
Thanks,
Speedster
Sounds like ews. Clear all codes in memory unplug battery for an hr.
If that doesn’t work and you can jump start it then my theory is right and you will need ews replaced and programmed for your car. Or used ews with keys. Or disable ews immobilizer all together. Had this issue before.
Have you pulled codes yet?
I think the clutch is just a fluke, so scan the DME for codes as it sounds like you have a soft failing fuel pump.

Try another key
I would say EWS. First check to make sure the connectors are secure.
The fact that it would sometimes start, along with your clutch pounding,
leads me to suspect the starter-more specifically the starter solenoid atop the starter.
Have a friend attempt to knock on the starter with a wrench while you simultaneously turn the key.
Come back and post your results. A good first step before attempting more difficult diagnostics.

Man the easiest way to diagnose is push starting it, if it runs after and does not turn on the it is not the ews or fuel pump and it is your starter.
