Hi guys I have recently purchased a 2002 1.9 1800 bhp facelift z3 it has a few issuses however the ones that concern me are as follows. occasional rattling under the cam cover that disappears, when engine is idling if I remove the oil filler cap on cam cover idling stays the same but is chucking oil out. I have the pre-facelift 1998 z3 with the e36 engine if I do the same procedure the engine runs rough till I replace the cap, also its not chucking oil out. So is there an issue with the M43 engine.
2002 1.9 M43? What?
2002 models were 2.5 or 3.0 M54
Is that also true for the UK where the poster is from?

We had the M43 in the facelift Z3s. The E46 had it as well.
Ok guys so its a Uk model facelift 4 pot 1.9 118 bhp engine which I believe is known as the M43 so BladeRunner919 is correct. Anyway as the two engines are entirely different, I have been reliably informed that the M43 is working as it should do. Thankyou for your comments. however this car has got bigger issues, airbag light, passenger door lock not working, remote central locking not working, alarm not working. Diagnostics showed air bag module faulty, low voltage, and the unit down the side of the seat that detects when its being sat on for the air bag, faulty as well. So here's the rub the seats in the facelift are pathetic, but the seats in the pre-facelift lovely red leather in great condition, can I use the module and the seats from the older z to the newer one. And any help on the other issues.
cheers everyone
For the central locking, did you try unlocking and locking the car with the key in the drivers door or trunk? You should hear the doors and trunk locking and unlocking. If not, you may have any issue with the ZKE central locking module behind the glove box. If you do hear them locking and unlocking then you may just need to re-sync your remote key.
You car was pre-wired for an alarm. If you have the alarm you will have a LED red light that flashes when armed. When you lock/unlock the car you should hear it beep.
For the seats, I know in the US they changed the connection on the bottom of seats around 1999. So the connections are not compatible from old to new...However I thought saw some older Threads suggesting you can make modifications in the wiring for this to work.
Good Luck
central locking no clunking sound only the sound of the button going down with the key, same with the boot. alarm no red light and no beep, as for the seats I will check the connectors.
Cheers guys
