Hello all,
My wife's 1998 328iC with 115K miles has a bad vibration at about 900RPM, and again at about 1800 RPM. From what I've read it seems like it could be a bad harmonic balancer or failed dual mass flywheel. Both are the original items on the car.
Is there a way to determine if the balancer is defective without actually replacing it?

Take a video while driving it.

Click the search button, select "search single content type", select the "e36 sub forum" specifically, try the "search titles" then try the "search entire posts".
I can film it at idle and rev to 1800RPM, but what should I be filming? I don't think the vibration will show in a video, but I can give it a shot tomorrow.
I would take it to a shop and have it properly dx, what if it is neither of the things you are thinking about?
hi, I was seeing some vibration then noticed one fan blade was broken. i think 1800 was the speed most noticeable.
