    No crank, no start clicks

Hey guys I own a 1997 bmw e36 328ic m52b28. So I’ve done an ews2 delete after figure my Ews had gone. Now after getting the ecu back I’ve run into a no crank no start issue. When turned to the “on” position my dash lights up but after turning to start it clicks and all the light go off. The lights will turn right back on but it continues to just click and do this. Is my starter fried. The battery is good brand new in fact. But just trying to figure this out before I pull it apart and start this pita job

Thats a classic weak ground symptom, check all battery connections and engine ground, if not that, try tapping the starter while holding to start position

Hey guys here’s some more info also I replaced the starter and it fixed the issue dude I took the car to fried my starter now I’m back to my old problem.

    1997 e36 328ic m52b28
    Automatic trans

after about a year of sitting and constant diag and so on I’ve got my car back together. I hooked up my new ecu that had ews2 removed and re coded to my vin. Nothing it cranks and sounds healthy but no start.

Fuel pump is priming unlike before. I can smell gas, no muffler, and either it’s compression coming out the exhaust or the sound of it trying to start that I hear when cranking but I’m not sure. I

have everything hooked up minus the maf what could it be I’m going to try and pick up a spark tester tomorrow and see if that’s it if not then I’m at a loss. Does anyone on here have any ideas I’d really appreciate it.

Also it’s not the factory engine. I blew up my old engine and got one at a junk yard. It is from the same year and it’s a 2.8. I got them engine and did the swap about 3-4 yrs ago. In all honesty idk the mileage on the engine. I doubt it’s bad, plus started and ran just fine but then one day it started have an intermittent starting issue where it would not start everything came on light wise but just wouldn’t crank and then after a few seconds it would start after flipping the key from on to off then one day I got home from my sons birth and it wouldn’t start. I assumed maybe the crank position sensor so I replace it. However that didn’t fix it. No codes, and no issues other wise that I’m aware of I did take it to a machanic ,fried my starter, and he couldn’t figure it out. He was a reputable shop near me.

You don't need a "spark tester". Just pull one coil and one spark plug. ground the spark plug threads and the coil body, then crank the starter and look for a spark.
