2007 BMW 328i Catalytic converter/Secondary Air Pump SULEV waaranty?

    Hi Guys,

I bought a 2007 BMW 328i 5-6 months back. It has 107,000 miles on it currently. The check engine light has been on the last few months and I just got around to getting that checked out. The dealer code its throwing are Cat converter bank 1 and bank 2 as well as secondary air pump. The valve gasket also has a slight leak which I can see on the side of the engine, its very minimal which when I use the heater in the car I can smell the burning oil smell coming from it (the mechanic told me this is very toxic and I don't doubt it, when the heater is off there is no smell). It doesnt happen all the time but I notice it come on especially when I make turns. Also the hood shows its a N51 engine which I believe is SULEV. Since the issue is related to SAP and cat converter as well as valve gasket (emission related components) shouldn't this be covered under the SULEV 150K/15 year warranty. The car is registered to CA.

I recently went to a mechanic who said everything all together would be close to 2 grand to fix but it seems to me these things should be covered under the SULEV warranty unless I missed some information.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you should be covered. Call the dealer, give them your VIN, and explain the problem. Remember, the dealer gets paid for warranty work by BMW, they don't do if for free.

Some emission warranty items are only 7/70

Thank you I have made an appointment for tomorrow. If it takes them a few days to get this done, do they provide a rental?

Just called and spoke to two BMW dealers here in Los Angeles. Both told me to bring in the car and that if it is indeed the problems in listed they are fully covered under SULEV warranty.
