    E24 coilover installation question

    Hello all,

I just purchased BC Street extreme low coil overs. They’ll arrive in 2-3 weeks so I’m taking the time to try and learn how to install.

I understand that there is strut sleeve that needs to be cut. Is there a certain length I should leave behind?

Then the coilover slides over the stock spindle and then gets welded on correct?

After that is it just a basic bolt on installation?

Seems pretty simple besides the welding part. Is there a certain direction or height or any specifics I need to be aware of?

If anyone has a link to a video or a DIY tutorial, that’d be great!

    Thank you

Also, e28 and e24 have Interchangable suspension because it’s the same chassis correct?

A lot of sites don’t have coil overs for an E24, but they have coil overs for E28s so I just want to make sure I can buy the set for an E28 and use it on my E24

Check part compatibility, select your car part, open part page should give you compatibility list.

Long list of coil over posts. If this link won't show, join "BigCoupe" and search suspension for coil-overs.

This is from Mye28.com, same idea as BigCoupe if the link does not show.

Once again thank you for all the info.

I gotta wait 2-3 weeks for the coilovers to get in. My bushings for my control arms are busted, shocks are busted and suspension is just overall just beat down. I’m looking to refresh my whole suspension for a nice comfortable ride with a sporty feel.

Besides the coilovers, I’m looking to replace the upper and lower control arms, tie rods and bushings. With that being said I have a couple of questions

    1. If I’m not planning on tracking the car, is there a big benefit of getting upgraded control arms and tie rods or will OEM be fine?

    2. Bushings - I’ve read polyurethane squeaks and makes the ride stiff but lasts longer and is used for more intense driving purposes. Should I just go with OEM rubber?

Well, I track my car - my suspension is Vogtland springs with sport billies and heavy bars-17 inch BBS RC090's.
Decent ride and great handling. I personally would not coil, with so many adjustments possible I would go nuts.
I let the engineers @ the after mark community do it for me. Unless I was a serious road racer then I might
consider coil overs for the extra advantage, but for spirited street driving and some track days I go with plug &
    play--that works for me.

Oem are fine, when replacing upper control arms make sure they're pre-loaded.
You can't go radical and get a comfy ride and sporty feel, don't forget these cars originally
stock had a comfy ride with decent handling. But with coil overs I think comfy no matter what else
you do is iffy at best. Don't know much about them, always thought they were for height adjustment
for better weight distro and a stiffer ride, well a really stiff-stiff ride, but I could be wrong about that.

Poly bushes can squeak and could be a little harsher ride, again with the rubber to get a better ride
make sure which ever you use they're pre-loaded before torquing tight or they will wear in a couple hundred miles.

    Just my $.02

I have e31 lowers and the Moosehead UCABS on Lemfoerder arms.

With the Ground Control coils and IE sway bar set up. I do have one MAJOR insight to offer. Make damn sure you do not cut too much off the front tubes if your coils require it. I did and now the front is closer than I’d like to the ground. The rake of the car is nice but I have lost any ability to raise the front without swapping back to the Bilstein fronts and stock tubes.
