I thought i took a picture before i took the shoes off. when i went to put new ones on after replacing the subframe bushings, i could not get the rotor on. I suspect i had the shoes upside down. Also, does it matter which direction the cable release and the adjuster go?
I tried to search here and on other forums. Cannot find the exact answer i need.

There are several DIY YouTube videos out there, E36 is very similar to E30.
The adjuster may need to be shortened with new shoes.
If parts don’t fit one way try them the other way…

yea... and not a one tells you the orientation of the shoes. Does the big notch go to the top or bottom.
we almost went through the same thing on my son's jeep but as he started pulling the other side apart, I told him to hold off so he could reference it in case he forgot how stuff goes back together. luckily I caught him because he forgot.
I cannot help with a pic today or I would. hopefully someone else can get one for you. if not, I might be able to get one tomorrow
No e30s again.
The Bentley has a picture of the assembly in the brake section. It's not great, but it's better than nothing. Photo attached is from my 89 when I took a reference shot while working on the rear subframe.

i figured it out... looking really close. I had the shoes upside down. Also the cable connector was backwards. On top of it all, the shoes i got did not match what i took off... since the old shoes were still good, i just cleaned them up and put them back in. Problem solved.
Funny side note... i did the exact thing on my truck when i put new shoes on there.... Even with the pictures... *sigh*
Thanks for the help.
