E32 Lower LAD Repair - Possible Solution

    Hi All

I have had an issues with the lower portion of the LAD shocks as it was leaking. I read through all the different postings (especially the advice of Shogun) and decide to have a go at it. I found that both the polyurethane seals at the bottom of the LAD had broken down. Decided to go off to my local hydraulic store to get a set of new of O-rings. I brought the actual seal along with the lower LAD hardware (see Patrick C 88 750 170K post http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/1245907 for pictures). I spent some time described what I was trying to do.

Luckily, he was able to get a replacement for the polyurethane seal from a company who specialises in theses 0O-ring seals. They were not very cheap and costs about $25.00AUD. But fitted perfectly and worked really well.

The dimensions of the new O-ring seal are a match to the old one. The only slight difference is on the new O-ring seal it is slightly tighter around the shaft. As the new O-ring sealed is sitting within the nut is well supported against the hydraulic pressure of the LAD. Overall very satisfied with the seal and the shaft. I have reassembled the LAD and there appears to be no leak but time will tell. Overall really quite satisfied with the solution. I understand that using an O-ring does work most of the time.

As time goes by I will report how successful this has been.

on Bimmerboard we were talking about LAD seal dimension: wiper seal DH 12x18x3.8mm probably that size, google for that size.
or enlarge the pic of the blue wiper seal, there is a number. see this link http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...0#post29214070

    Hi Sansouci and Shogun

Yes, I contacted the Ruffin Hydraulics in Geelong again to get some more information. I did get some technical information from them and I have attached it below. Like most companies they have this information but not available to the public.

My problem now is to work out who manufactures this item which I am working on. The web page I have is https://www.hsa.com.au/product/18167...18-004-006-t-h
Having installed them they really look like a solution.
