Hi guys,
I just bought a single DIN Pioneer DEH S5250BT for my 1990 sedan.
Now, I'm looking to fix my power antenna (not working currently) and I'm told that the auto antenna can be paired with aftermarket headunit. So here's my question.
From what I read, power antenna has 3 wires (ground, switch, and power). Ground is pretty self explanatory, power (usually in red), and the switch wire.
Now, I'm confused as to where should I tap the switch wire into in the new headunit? battery or ACC maybe?
please help
thanks
Hi,
Check if the head unit has a 'Remote Antenna On' or 'Remote Amp On' wire. This will give an output which triggers the item connected to it. It may be that the power antenna you have still may not work as it might need a constant 12V or 5V or, it might just need a 'pulse' of a voltage to trigger it. Nowadays, hardly any cars have a powered antenna so you may need to have a relay wired in to the antenna to give it the trigger singal it needs. I suggest speaking to a local reputable and knowledgeable 12V electrics specialist to check and do this for you.
Cheers, Dennis!
