    Current Battery Recommendations (e36 M3)

Hi folks. Long time since I posted.

After searching the forum, I wanted to ask what current batteries people recommend. I'm replacing the Interstate MTP-91 I installed in 2012. That was the top choice at the time but is no longer available. The MTP-91 was nice because of more CCA and less weight than the OEM battery.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Buy an AGM H6 battery. Brand is not so critical. Maybe Bosch?

Our cars charging system isn't designed for agm batteries. It's also a lot more expensive for no additional gains.

I have not had any problems using AGM batteries in my E36. They do cost more, but they last longer, are safer and are maintenance free. If you don’t drive much during parts of the year and do not put the a trickle charger in a regular battery, you will kill it faster than an AGM, which can better withstand discharging.

I was looking for weight savings when I bought my battery, so I simply bought the smallest automotive battery available at Walmart. It was $50 and half of the weight of the stock battery. Works absolutely brilliantly with zero hesitation starting, even in the dead of winter. It is a daily driven car so the battery stays well charged.

I previously had a very light weight lithium battery in the car, it didn't crank as strongly as the lead acid batteries do. Ultimately I had to ditch the lithium battery because the alternator voltage was just a bit to high for the cells and it damaged the lithium cells.
