    LTW Corner Splitter Install

Hey guys just got the oem corner splitters and am confused on how to install them.

    1) do they work with oem porkchops
    2) do you have to remove the bumper lip and install it on the lip first then reinstall to bumper as one piece?
    3) do you drill into the oem lip?

OEM GT splitter's and GT tray? or just the 2 side splitters?

Splitters just go where the existing oem lip screws go, unbolt the ones that overlap it and bolt it all in together on the bumper.

Next question. Did these come primered or some sort of coating from the factory? Texture looks different than the lip and practically peels off with finger nails

Also Brett, for the 5th hole toward the center I have to drill into the lip for... is it also supposed penetrate the bumper?

OP, are they original BMW parts or aftermarket?
Do you see stamped part numbers and BMW logo on the inside?

that finish looks similar to the cheap replicas you can get for $40 or less (no offense just an observation)

None taken. Ironically the underlying layer is much more like the oem lip material.

Whatever this layer of paint is, is interesting that is there to begin with. It can’t be primer either cause it flakes off too easily to paint on. Maybe its just added sacrificial layer. I dunno.

The ebay reps I tried before going oem did not have this coating but crappier fitment

I doubt the backside is worth fussing over. OEM are well proven.

It could be due to time somehow the finish coat became weak and tending to peel off.
Years back I ordered a set of these from BMW that were carbon fiber wrapped after, did not notice any issue with finish coat.

Also Chris...in looking at your Flickr pics, you have the oem ones as well. In close-up pics you can see the rubbery texture peeling off in some spots like the side on yours; revealing the smooth plastic texture. I guess it is normal after all and serves as a sacrificial layer.

I don’t have OEM corners. Just the splitter and brackets. The corners don’t have a rubberized coating on them. My oem lip (not splitter) has some peeling though.

Can anyone provide a part number for the hardware required to mount the corner splitters to the existing M lip? I'm seeing some conflicting info on real oem. It looks like the original hardware for the stock M front lip is P/N: 07119916949, while the diagram that shows the hardware for the full LTW adjustable wing uses P/N: 51112268818 (excluding the plastic push-pin fastener used at the corners of the wheel wells, which is common across both diagrams). Do I need to remove the original screws and replace them with the -18 screws, or can i reuse the original -49 screws? If anyone can give me the thread specs for the proper hardware, I'm fine with buying some from the hardware store instead of shelling out $1 per fastener. For reference I have a 97 sedan.

Don’t bother using OEM stuff. Overpriced and overkill to get to the same job.

Just buy some assorted stainless steel or zinc coated nuts, washer, and bolts. You will need varying sizes because the original mounting clips of the m3 lip to bumper are no longer be needed here so those will need to be removed.

What you are essentially doing is sandwiching the oem M3 lip inbetween the bumper and the corner splitters; using nuts, bolts, and washer in the existing clip holes.

First remove the bumper and the lip. Its a lot easier to see and fasten the bolts while it is off the car.

The corner spliter holes line up with the factory clip holes but one thing that wasn't clear in the instructions was extra hole needed to be drilled toward the center of the lip for each splitter (you will see what I mean when you test fit the splitters onto the lip). That hole will need to be drilled and secured onto the m3 lip while it is off the bumper (if you attempt to drill it while the lip is on the bumper, you will drill through and nick the bumper).

once you secured the inner holes of the splitters onto the lip then realign and fasten it together as one piece onto the bumper

Do you have a directory, or point me in the direction of where I can get E36 docs like this?
