[e61] aftermarket sound system

Hi there,

I have a BMW e61 with a basic sound system which is, as you know, miserable.

I am looking for an after market option, since logic7 is too expensive for me.

Has anyone put any aftermarket soundsystem to their e61 and have any suggestions? Which one I should go with? Looking for a good quality sound of course.

The first thing to do is to set a realistic budget. That budget needs to include the cost of what you intend to replace (see below), the cost of installation and setup and a 10% fudge budget.
The first thing to replace is the speakers. BMW seems to scrimp on speakers to save money and weight. BMW almost always installs quality electronics such as head units and amps. Yes, the amps are rather underpowered and the head units don’t have the best digital to analog conversion circuitry, but they are pretty decent quality.

I went with the Bimmertech 13 speaker package in my daily E61. It's all direct fit so pretty easy to DIY the install and it made a dramatic difference in sound quality.
