This is my first-ever thread on this forum. I've embarked on an E38 S62 6-speed swap and I'm excited!
- 80k-mile 2001 740i M sport (Alpine white)
- 29k-mile 2003 M5 S62 matching engine, 6-spd transmission, differential, and driveshaft
- M5Jed Unicorn headers and flywheel
- H&R II springs, Bilsteins
- All tan interior getting new leather in Tobacco Brown on black
- Alcantara headliner
- M5 cluster
- NBT retrofit
I got inspired by Tyler and Brandon (RVAE34) about a year ago (have been thinking about it every since) and they have been very generous with their guidance. Tyler is selling me his motor/tranny/diff/driveshaft combo (originally from Adam). Trevor (007008) is doing the swap, suspension upgrades, re&re of interior, and a ton of details. Brian (Redshift) is doing the interior. Paul (blackknight530i) is doing the cluster. Joseph (M5jed) is providing headers and flywheel.
I am in my 'coaching years' with my girls so I feel fortunate to be working with these guys whom I believe are the best of the best. I'm trying to get this all done by early May to coincide with a roadtrip with my dad and brother. It's ambitious, but I'm going for it. Still need to track down a lot of black interior bits (carpet, dash, center console, misc parts) and a few other things but most of everything listed there is paid for and is either on its way to Trevor/Brian or is there already. Wish me luck!
Just figuring out how to share pictures. This is a test.

I wish you luck. The interior colors you have picked are going to look real cozy.
In for updates!
Looking forward to this!
And so it begins.

I’m on the way to Brian’s right now with the interior. The garage is full right now with a Touring that’s a rolling chassis waiting to be picked to be painted.

Made my interior leather choice. Tobacco Brown is super hard to find as it was sold in the E38 (as an Individual color). I thought I had found an actual sample from a 2013 X5 but it's different (much more chocolatey).
After reviewing a bunch of samples that Brian sent me I landed on Butterrnut Rum. The rest of the interior will be black. I think it's going to really pop but of course you never REALLY know until you see it live. So I'm rolling the dice!
Here's a pic of the sample against black, and also a large piece (pic from Brian) that shows the 'sauvage pattern' (slight natural-looking variations).
Maybe it just me but the pictures aren’t loading.. lol

The swap begins!
That looks very interesting. That’s an option I’m considering in the future. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
Good luck.
Subscribed for updates as well. I've got your cluster and just need some time after I sliced my finger open last week to work on it . I'll hopefully have it sent to Trevor soon though.
Also, I'm not seeing pics either. Where are they hosted?

Hmm. I didn't know the pictures weren't coming through. They're on Dropbox. I'll check the settings.
Does anyone see this picture? (Right below this text.)

Or this picture? (call the previous one #1, or this one #2) (Sorry, everything shows up for me so it's hard to get feedback.)
Yeah none of the pictures show up, just shows a grey icon. Try uploading attachments thru the forum instead of a host site

Hmm. How's this? (Seems very small...)

There I'm caught up!
Trevor found a mint 740 with a black interior and got really great carpets, center console, seat belts, and a bunch of other stuff.
Black carpets cleaned.jpg
He also had the headliner, back sill, and other bits (12 parts total) redone in black Alcantara. (Looks grey but he assures me it's all black.)
Alcantara upgrade in black (12 parts).jpg
He also found seat mounting/trim parts from another car. (Trevor is amazing.)

Trevor is now putting things back together. Alcantara headliner, pillars, etc. are in, and carpets too. Progress is being made!

Replacement black door panels are in Brian's hands so he can match the inserts to the leather on the seats. I think we have all the interior parts we need now. Waiting on the NBT kit - we are trying to find out if we need to run special cables before the dash goes back in.
Don't worry: the pix are small, but when you click on them they show up full size.
Diving in at the shallow end!
Lookin great!
