One connection dangling in passenger footwell

Hi guys, sorry I'm new to this so hope I'm posting in the right place. I've just discovered a spare connection hanging in the passenger footwell of my 2010 1 series.
Not sure if it's coincidence or not but my heater/AC system has started to not blow air out the vents.
I thought it was the blower motor or connected control unit and have replaced both which haven't done anything.
Could this random wire be the cause as surely it must need to be plugged in somewhere
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

What color are the wires? How many pins in the connector?
