Hey all.
A few weeks ago I grab an old E36 318i for dirt cheap.
Full off problems.
I have since found a donor car being an E60 525i.
I've searched a few different forums and few different places but haven't come across anyone else to have done this swap (yet).
If anyone is a bit of an expert on the topic in one way or another would appreciate tip tricks and probable problems that I'll run into.
Will I need a new cross members, tailshafts.
I'm going to assume since in fly by wire and not cable I'll need new accelerator pedal and all.
I've been told for 900 bucks I can strip pretty much anything I'm wanting off the car...
So I was going to take the M54B25 the zf 6hp26 auto box ecu loom radiator intake oil filter headers and cats. Will also be grabbing the shifter and surroundd..
Is there anything else I might need of the donor car before it gets scrapped.
Been considering taking the time and tyres as they're pretty nice and my old ones àre 15s and believe these are 17 or 18 as they're not stock.
Would there be issues running my 15s would I need to reconfig the gearbox?
Anyone put the zf box into a E36 before how much work was involved? (Moving brackets and shit around or complete refabs)
Being told to sell or scrap ain't why I'm on here.
I am sure it can be done, but it could be more trouble than you think. Very very very few swap the later dual vanos motors into the early cars and there are probably reasons like connectivity to the chassis harness. As long as you are up for the project, have fun and let us know how it turns out.
