I could use some help finding the part that seals the engine bay. It's a plastic barrier that runs from left to right at the rear. What's the proper name for it and the part number so I can try and find it?
I am having trouble uploading an image of it right now, I keep getting forum quota exceeded messages.

Go to reloem.com either the last seven of the vin, go to section 51 and near the end is where they list lower panels, the pictures may not be very good, also there's a possibility that they could list the part in other sections like 41

Help us help you...you have us totally in the dark. Even if someone wanted to take the time to dig through the part database to find the exact diagram you're referring to...we can't because you haven't revealed which engine you have. You only reveal that you own a 2011 X5...you left off the suffix which would give a hint to at least where to look in the part database.
But most of all...just a simple copy & paste of the diagram page's URL address you were looking at would allow us to immediately see the same diagram you were referring to...as well as possibly help us look in other locations with the correct model/model year in case we new a different diagram to find the info you seek.
Again, help us help you better...give us enough info/details so that we can search/look/find/etc.

Okay. Thanks for letting me know that I inadvertently made it difficult. It’s a 35ix.
The “gasket” Part #21 can be found here

Thanks...this gives me something to work with.
The 3 plastic parts that you seek may be in this diagram (#10 & #14?):

The parts 10 and 14. There not cheap and poorly made
RealOEM indicates I can get everything I need for ~$115 but I don’t see a purchase link. A local dealer wanted $800 and there was nothing to be had at a local salvage yard.
$297 from one of the advertisers on the site and the parts are on the way.
Thanks guys and gals :-)

You cant buy parts from reloem only look them up. If it was my car I would put them back together with some aluminum pieces and bolts, better yet just leave them out and it will vent the engine heat better, but they were poorly designed and manufactured
There's a water drain behind there. I don't think I want to do without the barrier. The real problem isn't part integrity. It's misalignment of the parts and then slamming the hood down. I always bring the hood down and then use my weight to latch, eliminating such issues.
And if you really want to do it well, carbon fiber would be a good choice.

No the part is poorly made you will notice the panels above and below where it breaks is much thicker then the center whichis quite thin.
I am judging by the part failure I have in hand (pics posted). This is the way we bought the car. Our mechanic said to replace it right away, and I agreed it was a critical part. If it’s failure prone, I would love to replace it with a better design. Perhaps one day soon I’ll be good enough with my CAD and 3D printing skills to do so but for now I’m satisfied with purchasing a replacement. How often does it need replacing?

Also what’s not depicted is the broken mount to the far right in the wheel well. It’s plastic and I bought a replacement for that too. Looks like shearing force to me.
Plate aluminum to reinforce
It looks like the parts have been redesigned. I ordered the right side and my mechanic said I should get the left side, so I ordered that too. Dealer wanted $800 and I spend a bit over $530 in parts; they seems to be much better made than what came on the car. I ordered from PelicanParts.com
