    US spec sized rear plate

    Hi folks

I've got the OEM BMW plate recesses for my Jap import touring (wagon) and wanted to see which sized plates you lot use over The Pond?

Thr JDM plates are 13x6.5" as far as I can see, for the front. But what sized rear plates do you use?

Also; does anyone know how the rear plate recess fits as there are no fittings provided

    Cheers

Go on reaoem.com for part numbers. But as for you question about the us spec piece, it should be the same as the Jap spec you think you got. The same plastic tag bracket clips are used on the wagon plate, just as in the sedans. I remove those plate holders on all my wagons and just use the OEM tag bracket, looks much better in my opinion.

He should attach to holes in the gate via the two points on the filler - there are rubber/plastic plugs that go there

    Too many
US license plates, front and rear are 6 inches (15 cm) high by 12 inches (30 cm) wide in general. There are some variations on that theme in different states but in general those are the US license plate dimensions.

A word of note... The US guys have started removing those and using the E60/E90 rear US plate attachment brackets. The filler piece holds dirt and salt against the tailgate causing rust areas. If you aren't driving in salt, you should be okay. If you are, I would heed caution and remove it periodically to clean.

The grommets/plugs used to attach it are the same at the ones used on the E38 to attach the rear plate bracket.

    Thanks for that heads up

Do you have the part number or link to the grommets/plugs you’ve mentioned.
