To clean the fuel injectors or just buy new ones that is the question. Theyre the original ones from 87 from what i can tell am i better off just eating the 230 bucks and getting some freshies. Prior to tearing the whole car apart the idle was rough, surging and was smoking real nice out the tail pipe. Dont think the injectors were causing the problem tho. I also dont plan on removing the intake again for a while so im trying to convince myself to just pull the trigger and buy them unless someone has a counter point
Be careful when buying new injectors and from what source.
Many 'new' E30 injectors are Chinese made Bosch clones, complete with correct part numbers and logos (they go for $6 each on alibaba when buying bulk). They will never perform as well as genuine ones.
If you cannot be sure you are getting genuine originals, you might be better off having your old injectors rebuilt and ultrasonic cleaned.
I used ford injectors from a 4.6 v8 the last time I swapped injectors. if they changed anything, I don't know, but there plentiful and cheap at the junkyard. I just cleaned them with carb cleaner and put new o-rings
No e30s again.
i think i could clean them but after watching videos and reading about spray volume and pattern i think injectors that have sat for 15 years and are coated on the tips with blow by should just be replaced now and never have to worry about it since im sure i have plenty of other idle problems. No cheaping out at this point already too deep in the project haha
I was looking into this too. Has anyone else come across the cattuned e30 refurbished injectors? They seem like a deal. Also there's various rebuild kits for cheap on eBay I wonder if those components are trustworthy, mainly the filter?

i have read about that stuff but there is a guy, I think here on bimmerforums, that does injectors cleaning and rebuilding. if I remember right, he has a sonic tank and has a test rig to check patterns and volume. I think if you do a site search, it will show up. and if its not on ehre, its on revlimited so google will find him
No e30s again.
Don't attempt to just rebuild your injectors with a rebuild kit. That does nothing. They need to be professionally ultrasonic cleaned and flowed backwards and forwards to flush them.
This picture is of a recent set of injectors showing before and after results. A huge difference.
Yeah i think sending them out and to have spray patterns and volume analyzed isnt really viable rn so im better off just biting the bullet and buying new ones. cleaning the intake manifold super thoroughly so not gonna put used and tired injectors back in.
The catuned ones are supposed to be ultrasonic cleaner yatayaya all for $160. Does that seem too good to be true? Also do all m20 use the same injectors? I can look on real oem for my car, some or some dang expensive!
Yeah i mean for 160 you would save a decent amount of money. I think if i were going to pay someone for reman'd injectors id probably want a sheet like agisthos put out to show that they are like new quality now. For me piece of mind that i have brand new bosch injectors is worth the money. Considering there are so many other vacuum leaks and hoses and the ICV and all that can go wrong i want to just eliminate the injectors from the equation.
I hear ya. If the original ones lasted 30 yrs why not spend a little more for new ones that could do the same. It's a vital component.
they do not use the same on all m20s. m20b25 seem to have a few options, m20b27 are totally different from the b25 because they are low impedance injectors and will mess up your ecu if you use them on a 2.5 system, and the 1.8 engines use different ones, too
No e30s again.
Sounds like thwoing money on parts for no reason to me the old ones might not even be bad? I would get them tested / serviced
Maybe it is just my luck, but the OE injectors never lasted with me.
The originals were sent out for cleaning, 2 were leaking, replaced with 2 used cleaned and good ones. One month later, the other 4 started leaking , go i picked up a whole set of 6 used ones. Cleaned those, found two were leaking, but now 6 non leaking cleaned injectors. 5 weeks in, and one started leaking, so i just purchased the new Bosch ones instead (with 4 spray nozzles) and never had an issue since.
Some people will say, their originals have 300,000 miles and running great, and some have experience like myself. From experience, if one is poor/bad/leaking the rest will follow, just a matter of time (could be a week, or a year it is unpredictable).
A new injector in Germany Bosch 0280 156 346 is what we have here, runs for €31 each. Injector servicing is €25 each injector, however prices for the new injectors here were €55+ hence why i went with used and cleaning (and being unlucky). The new injectors are a bit more fuel efficient as well, not much but i see 50-60 kms more between refueling (that is around 20-30 miles or so).
I looked at rcfuel injector cleanings website. I guess they flow test and give em an ultrasonic bath, but they won't replace o-rings and filters? Maybe I'll call em to see. I guess that's how you might get leaky injectors even after a cleaning.
i had to buy new ones for mine last fall... the ones that were in there didnt look original but they were literally falling apart. These seem to be decent though. Not sure how long they will last though.

when they say leaking, I think they mean dripping after the car is shut. leaking at the O-rings is not something they will know because its not on your fuel rail. the O-rings can be bought anywhere though. I have bought them at the local hardware store in the plumbing area. a container had 50 O-rings for like 3 dollars.
No e30s again.
Injectors leak/drip because of the crud inside them and they cannot fully close. After a sonic clean the drip will disappear in most cases (hopefully!).
So i bought these from FCPeuro since its what they said fit but they look completely different from my stock injectors. No nozzle tip, 4 holes and much skinnier. FCP and Bimmerworld both say that they are compatible with the m20b25 for an 87 325is but i was wondering if anyone had put them in before. I don't need people telling me i wasted my money, the old injectors were shot.
