What model was the zf steering box used on m73?

I'm trying to track down some zf service parts and the only identifiers I can find on the dirty thing didn't really help.

Try the attached ZF catalog for the application & cross reference numbers.

Your plate is right over the edge from the casting numbers displayed in your first pic.



Top line is the ZF number that you will find in the cat.
Second number is the shortened version of the BMW PN 3213... OR 3241...
If your box is a reman, then the BMW number will have been altered from original, replaced by the Service Part number found in the ZF cat. 1138868 instead of 1138691.
The bottom line, right, is the serial number.
Don't know bottom line, left.

Thank you. The picture helped. The plate was hidden behind the heat shield and caked on oil.

Just found your old thread https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...F-steering-box and it looks like my unit is the same.

I have a contact that I have bought zf parts from before and I'll see if I can get some info about kit/spare parts.
