M60B40 with B30 DME and MAF - is it safe?

    Hi,
I would like to know if it is technically safe to run a M60B40 engine with a M60B30 MAF and the B30 DME. I am aware that this would most likely sacrifice some power, however I only want to know if the engine would take any damage (for example due to wrong timing/leaning out etc.)

    Thanks a lot!

It will not cause any damage, but the air/fuel maps will not be correct - fortunately, as it is a closed-loop system adaptations will counter these problems. If the air/fuel cannot be adapted you will get an SES light and error codes. However, there are a darn sight more 740's out there than 730's, I would have thought finding a MAF and DME for the 740i would be more obtainable...

    Hi,
Thanks for moving to the correct sub forum and for responding.

In the Long run I’ll definitely get the proper 4.0 parts, but it wasn’t a planned swap (the timing chain on the b30 sent it to heaven) and I have a lot of private stuff to sort at the moment and just needed the car to be running again as fast as possible.
As I said, for the time being I wouldn’t mind a little less power or some error codes, I just wanted to make sure that I won’t destroy the engine by running the b30-setup until I get the time to properly finish everything up.
So thanks confirming that I won’t accidentally kill the next time engine!
