Hi,
I have a 2002 BMW Z3 Roadster 2.5l, I guess it is a E36
I took my car for diagnostic because the computer that shows mpg, etc... suddenly stop showing.
The car mechanic shop reprogrammed the body control module as E46 (but I guess he should have used e36, but he says is compatible)
now the computer works, but now my car has other fails:
- the stop light doesn't work when pressing the break pedal.
- The stop light in the trunk is all the time ON, even when the car is off and key out.
- When press the break pedal, all the accesories are ON, even when the car is OFF without the key placed.
The mechanic guy states that those are new failures , there is nothing to be with the programming, I don't thing so, so I would like to have more info to demostrate to him (if I am correct) that the wrong programming he did to the module is causing those failures.
So my questions are:
Have you seen those failures before, and what could be the reason of them?
Does the E36 and E46 control module has the same pinout ?
Does the E36 and E46 are compatible in hardware pinout?
Is there a specific software available for E36?
Thanks for your support and advice on this.
Best Regards.
It sounds like you have some wiring mixed up. Look at the wiring that goes from the trunk to the trunk lid. The wires in the rubber tube break and can short out. See if opening and closing the trunk a couple of times changes things.

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
