Its time to part it out...

Mayor, let me know if this is still OK?

For about 3 yrs my original 1998 740iL has been sitting in the driveway collecting dust, this after the #8 exhaust valve cracked, sending pieces into the cylinder, and cracking the engine block after about 210k miles. I though about replacing the engine, but just did not want to deal with it any more. I put plenty of time and effort into keeping it running (as the long timers on here can attest to) but she finally beat me down. No matter, I went out and got me a DINAN 7 and never looked back. I've been using the broken iL as a parts car for the DINAN for now, but the wife says get rid of the eyesore in the driveway, we live in Cali, not Alabama (no dis, I used to live in Mississippi).

Anyway, I'll take off any parts you are looking for, just PM me and make a reasonable offer per part. I'll keep her for about 3 months or until the wife has had enough and then off to the Junk Yard for scrap. I do travel a lot for work, so may not be able to get you stuff right away, but I'll let you know when I can send it. Some big things will only be SoCal pick up only, not willing to send huge things out.

Some things right off the bat that I think may interest anyone, all prices are with shipping:

    1. CD43 Radio/CD: $250
    2. SOLD
    3. MPars, staggered: $500 So Cal pick up (I can look into shipping those), they need polishing, otherwise minimal road rash, OE
    4. Both front Comfort (not Sport) seats for 1999-2001 cars, with heat and Active, gray leather: FREE SoCal pick up only (I was going to convert these to fit and work on pre-facelift and never got the chance)
    5. SOLD
    6. Rear gray LED taillights: $100
    7. SOLD
    8. SOLD
    9. 5HP24 Transmission (you come and we both take it out) rebuilt about 40K miles ago, ran and shifted fine: $300
    10. Front Bumper assembly, repainted from a calypso red car: $100 So Cal pick up. Rear bumper has a crack.
    11. SOLD
    12. GONE
    13: GONE
    14. GONE
    15. Cupholder, yes it works, but the rubber thingys that hold your soda can are deteriorated or gone: $10 to pay for shipping
    16. Inst Cluster in great shape, all pixels appear to work fine, modified with silver gauge rings: $100 shipped.

For those in SoCal: I live up in the Antelope Valley, but I come to LAX 3-4 times a month and BUR about once a month, so if those are convenient meeting points, we can meet and do the "drug deal" in the airport parking lot, for parts that fit in the DINAN to transport.

Other than the cracked block, the rest of the engine is in good shape, I've already taken the coils, but let me know if you need any other parts.

The cats on the car are OE replacements from another member, in great shape, inspected by a muffler shop. PM me and we can work out something...

Here's a few photos of the car in its hey-day:

Kouks sorry to hear. I remember when that happened and can totally relate to the "too busy to deal with this" feeling.

I will take the grills if they are in good shape with decent tabs. Also, did the cruise control work? I will take the cruise module under the hood if known good, as I only get 30 minutes of free driving before my car forces me to keep my foot on the pedal. I'm sure there is something else, but that's it off the top of my head. Edit: the cruise modules went through a few versions; my 98 has the smaller rectangular connector, not the larger round connector.

Oh, if only I didn't live 2000 miles away.

As always sorry to hear anyone parting out a car, but hopefully you sacrifice will keep many more e38s on the road.

Sad to see it go but being a parts(organ) donor will help others stay on the road. Looking forward to seeing the DINAN 7 though.

If someone takes the dash, I could take the AC fan and resistor as those have failed in my car ... again. Spray nozzles over front bumper. I need those too.

Hey everyone, there’s plenty of interest on parts from the car. Thanks.

I do have a pretty busy schedule to the end of Feb though and limited time to pull parts. So I won’t spend any time pulling parts unless they are already paid for. Hope all understand. I can email you pics if you want to see the condition of something, obviously have time for that...when I’m home. The life of an airline pilot, some weeks you’re off completely, others your home for a night or two. Unfortunately I’m at a busy part of my schedule, I’ll have more time the beginning of March.

I’ll be sending out several items this Monday, 24 Feb.

How about the plastic surround for the driverside sideview mirror. Not the body colored bit, just the black plastic trim. My wife borrowed my 7 a few days ago and clipped the mirror backing out of the driveway :-(.
There is only one e38 in the local pick-n-pull and it is missing both mirrors

I've been reading your rebuild thread considering doing mine but since yours is for sale I figure it would be best to just figure it out I will definitely let you know about the trans.

Total cost to rebuild was about $1800, I don’t think that included the fluid which was over $200, my working used tranny is $300. Let me know.

Well, it’s not really helping the curb appeal of my house, so it’s gotta go. It would have cost too much to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. And the DINAN is fun!

Ha - Just scored a 1997 wooden steering wheel from LKQ - before this post I didn't know they even existed! And it works fine with the wiring on my 1995.

    Bill -

Received the wood B pillars today -

Perfect timing as my car is at the dealership

having some work done and the shop foreman

said he would install these for me -

Your incredible gesture is not easy for me to accept -

These are one of the big three items I have been

looking for and now my list is down to 2 -

Planning on doing a run of E38 T-shirts in

the next couple of months and you are on the

    list -

    My sincere thanks
