735i Windshield

Hi folks,
The time to replace the cracked windshield on my 88 735i
has come!! Well, I have contacted a local windshield replacement company, and ...was quoted at $1200. Is this right?
Any pointers?

Hopefully you added that 1 by mistake. $200 sounds about right. You’ll want to replace all the seals and trim when it’s out.

Eh, it depends. If you replace the glass with OEM BMW and use new OEM trim pieces (as opposed to carefully removing and reusing the originals), it will come out to ~$1000. I went to a few of the glass replacement chain shops locally when I did mine and they refused, claiming the car is too difficult to replace the windshield. So I tried the dealer and they quoted me ~1500, then called me back and said they had no-one that could do it for these cars. My 2 windshield frame trim pieces were damaged, so I ordered new ones from BMW at ~$200 each, along with a new windshield directly from BMW, then found an independent shop who was familiar with these cars and was willing to replace the glass.

Edit: when I ordered the windshield from BMW it had to come from Germany and they claimed it was one of the last few left in inventory.
