Had multiple faults set for gear position switch, can faults, internal fault in EGS. Car drives but shifts hard, gear indicator in cluster does not display shifter position.
Under the car I found a deteriorated rubber boot on the transmission harness connector at the transmission. Upon removal the connector pee'd dirty water out. Corrosion and contamination were evident in the connector. I rinsed both the connector and socket on the transmission with brake cleaner, dried them thoroughly and cleaned contacts and terminals with a toothbrush. After loosening debris with the toothbrush, I rinsed and dried them again. This resolved all faults and the car drives normally.
Next time you have yours in the air, take a look at the boot on the harness. It is much better to simply repair the boot than have to deal with water ingress and corrosion.
Sounds like a good catch but pictures are needed to complete your find...thanks.

Do you have a GM trans? I had a similar issue a couple of years ago and unfortunately, it happened while I was on vacation in Gulf Shores. Hit a huge water puddle at night and the problems started the next day. Hard shifting and downshifts when slowing down would be really harsh. Took it to a shop and they were unable to access the trans harness with it being near the top of the trans. It finally cleared up after a few days and I guess it dried itself out with engine heat over time.
