    2016 BMW 535i broken trunk

    Hello!!

I have a problem that I caused myself...

I tried to close my trunk automatically (with a button). For some reason it did not close all the way thru. Then I lifted it up and noticed that there was some ice holding it from closing. I removed the ice and tried again to close it automatically. Again it did not close all the way, then I decided to push it down all the way to close it. When I was pushing it something broke in there and the trunk moves freely now. Now the trunk wont even stay up by itself.

Did anyone else have an issue like that? Any ideas??

Take the interior side panels off and see what you broke. Seems pretty simple to me.

I’m new to the f10 and don’t know enough about the mechanics of these closers to help, but I have a related question...what’s the word on manual closing of the trunk occasionally or under certain conditions? I try to avoid it on my X5 hatch, but as long as I move it slowly it seems fine. Not like I do it a lot, but I moved the trunk manually to install the license plate, and the other day had a full trunk so I pushed it closed a bit.

Sorry tom don’t mean to hijack. Maybe our answers are related.

From the wording about the function of the soft close features for the doors and tailgate/trunk...I interpret it as BMW engineering considered that the doors/trunk/tailgates may be closed manually at times. Read the info below and see what you think:
