Hello
I was pulled over this morning around 7:30 am on 02/13/20 and the sheriff said that I have a modified exhaust, and I really do but I told them that I bought my car like that. I have a muffler and resonator delete. Im 17 years old and my birthday is on the 16th but I still got the ticket as a minor and I felt like she wasnt supposed to give me such ticket because Im still a minor. Could you guys please tell me what Im supposed to do Im so confused and I dont want to bring my parents into this. I drive a 2000 BMW 323i. Its a fix it ticket and I live in california just in case that helps or something idk.
Don't live in California once you're a legal adult and have graduated high school. Since you admitted to it, you have to fix it or find someone who will sign off on it, and pay the fine if there is one. Even if you took it to court you wouldn't be able to do anything since most police have body cam/ microphone so they have recording of you admitting. It's a summary traffic violation which isn't bad at all. Since you're a juvenile it might even stay on your juvenile criminal record and not show in criminal background checks. The DOT will still show. Points shouldn't affect your license unless you get more tickets.
I would think if you're parents let you drive a BMW and are okay with you making the car loud, they might be annoyed and say something parents say, so just take it and tell them the truth. If you're on their insurance they'll find out because the insurance might go up a little. Not a big deal.

A fix-it ticket is such a small deal, it's really not worth fussing about. Nothing is going to happen to you, and your parents won't care. Find a stock exhaust at the junkyard (super cheap), bolt it up (super easy), take it in to prove you fixed it, done.
Who says minors can't get tickets? The driver of a vehicle is responsible for it regardless of their age. They don't give licenses out at 16 with two years of do-whatever-you-want included.
Tell your parents. It's way worse trying to hide it from them. Trust me, they will find out anyway.
