Will a 2.5l head fit on a 2.8l engine? Only difference is crank/stroke or am i wrong? I bought a head claiming to be 2.8 but when i got home numbers by head temp sensor say 2,5
M50 only fit m50. M50tu will exchange with m52 and s50 with the difference realisticly being functionally the same. Cylinder heads dont have anything to do with the engine diaplacement. The only difference is the m52 have 1 coolant sensor the m50tu have 2.. Which there are adapters made to fit the 1 sensor to both plugs i beleive.
Some of the early 2.8 motors came with the earlier heads from the m50tub25 so the guy was probably telling the truth. The only noticeable difference is a third threaded port into the water jacket of the head. The 2.8 with these heads had a plug in it. The cam trays are different between the m50tub25 and the m52b28 but they will fit in either head so this doesn't matter either. Be sure to have the head inspected by a machine shop before you use it. They are frequently warped or cracked.
+1
Even the 1995M3 and 1996+M3 share the same head casting as the 2.5L (323) and 2.8L (328).
There are machining variations in the later production heads that are different than early ‘400’ castings, temp sensor ports and coolant passages.
2.5L (325) uses a similar but different casting part number.
323/325/328 uses different valve spring than a head used for M3 (1995 and 1996+)

Thanks a lot i used my 2.8 cams and lifters with the 2.5 head 100 miles so far and flawless. 2 filters changes and 1 oil change since doing the head and gasket.
