I currently have a 01 325i with a M54B25 engine and am wondering if an M54B30 would be a direct swap? It is being offered with a 6-speed manual transmission but says it will fit my 5-speed automatic, is that true? If so, what possible issues may I have to lookout for as this is my first engine swap.

Also wondering what a good price would be to offer with 250k on it (I know its a lot but it's good running condition and I'm looking for a cheap engine right now to keep this thing alive)
Mechanically its a straight forward job, been done lots of times
Electrically its plug and play. You can run the 3.0 L engine on the 2.5 L tune and the adaptions sort out the differences. Or you can get the DME flashed for the 3.0 L engine.
1999 2.8L Z3 Roadster,
2000 3.0L Z3 Roadster,
There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
I don't fully understand, so I would be able to run the 3.0L engine on my DME without doing any modifications? Just direct plug and play?
If I got a DME from a 330i would I be able to just swap that in with the engine to avoid having the flash or mod my current DME if it's not plug and play?
The M54B30 and M54B25 engines use the same DME. Now, BMW used the M43 DME until model year 2003 when it switched to the M45 DME. The M45 uses wide band oxygen sensors while the M43 uses narrow band oxygen sensors. There are other differences. So, stick with an engine that’s from a 2001 or 2002 car.
I am looking at 2 engines, one from an 03 325i and the other from an 03 330i, wondering if I would have to flash the DME with the 03 325i same as the 03 330i
