Noob here (I did check noob section). My 87 325i convertible was stored in Maui and I suspect condo staff was driving it. I think someone disconnected the odometer so I wouldn’t know. Can anyone tell me how, or where to check for that? Thanks in advance. Steve

The odometer / speedometer would both be inoperable at the same time. The easiest way to disable would be to disconnect the electrical plug at the differential. Look under the rear of the car. It is on the passenger side of the diff facing you.
If your speedometer is working could also be one of those common E30 problems with the odometer gears needing to be replaced.
than the odometer would be working if the gears are good. but it is very very common for the gears to crumble from age and the odometer to not turn anymore. if you have a 13 button obc, I think the trip meter tracks with bad odo gears. I think- but its a hidden setting where you have to push two buttons at once to see. I could be wrong though so you have to google or search on here for how to use the hidden obc functions
No e30s again.
Bad gears, no foul play. By this age the gears turn in to playdoh. Not too bad of a DIY to fix, you can get new gears from odometergears.com
yep... had to do this very thing... the old gears just crumbled.

I have a guy that will replace the gears for me if I order them. Is there anyway to know which gears to order without pulling the cluster first? USA or German or VOD etc?
