Hey guys im having an issue with my 2002 bmw 540i i started it one morning on a cold day and it was making a strange tractor like noise from the front of the engine around the belt car drives fine with no CEL and the idle is normal except for the noise please help me out. Car has 215k miles on it currently. Thanks!!

Even though there is no check engine light on the timing chain guides can make some racket on a cold start
I didn't watch the video or whatever that link was for, but my first guess on M62's with loud engine noises is always guides. Especially at that mileage, and if they haven't been done before.

Sounds like one of the components of the aux air pump has failed allowing exhaust to escape.
I am not familiar with how the M62 is plumbed so perhaps someone more familiar can suggest where to begin.

The secondary air pipe is in front of the engine going to both heads about a 1/2 inch size aluminum pipe where the valve hooks up I think the pump is in the right front corner
