    2013 550 GT occasionally "reboots"?

I don't know how else to describe it but the car's entertainment/navigation system (control display) occasionally reboots or restarts itself when you are driving down the road. The restart is quick and the only thing I've noticed is if the navigation was on the destination is lost. Only noticed it recently. The cars "software" is on the latest available version. It's doesn't happen often and is more of a minor annoyance than a problem but any idea what the cause could be?

By “software” do you mean maps or the actual firmware in the system?

Computers (which what you’re writing about) reboot when an error is detected. I don’t think that error is in the firmware per se as it would be rebooting more frequently. Does the head unit dim or act funky in any other way? Have you had any other electronic or electrical issues with the car? How old is the battery? How many miles on the car?

The car is out of warranty so going to the dealer will be expen$ive. You could find a reputable indie shop that specializes in bimmers at www.bimrs.org. The shop needs to have the BMW proprietary software to scan the car’s modules.

Rebooting is typically a sign that the head unit needs to be replaced.

    I meant the firmware.

40,000 miles on the car. Not sure the age of the battery. No dimming of the screen. The only other odd thing ever is very occasionally there is a delay when changing the radio stations using the preset.

I'll quote my own post in case you didn't see it the first time.
