Do your back seats fold down?

You crawl through your car into the trunk and pull the liner away from in front of the latch. It's sort of a pita, more so to put everything back. But if that's your only way in I guess you gotta do it

Is the lock all the way out? Sometimes it sticks partially in and won’t engage or disengage.
Once you get it open, check the sheet metal around the lock for cracking. It happens. Braymond141 sells a nice reinforcement plate (and new alarm/opener key fobs that work).

I recently had this problem. For mine it was a little white plastic clip that receives the control rod (for lack of a better term). The rod snaps into this clip and mine had gotten so tired that the rod would pop out. Grabbed a couple from the junkyard and it has been fine. Once you pull the liner it will be obvious if this your issue.
