    Bottom mount wastegate locations

E36 M50 build. I haven't settled on a manifold yet. My question is, which of these three WG port locations is most practicable? Side, rear, or corner, that are options on the cast manifolds. I've been searching and reading many threads, but since a few of the image hosting sites began charging, a large percentage of photos don't appear on the threads anymore. Disappointing.

Anyway, I've owned several turbocharged vehicles but never built one. I am very capable. In addition to assembling my engines, building my own engine harnesses and ECUs (MS2 Extra), I've programmed and tuned my own cars. I also can TIG weld aluminum for my charge piping.

So, which causes the least/most problems with access, interference, installation? Or do they all equally suck?

    are slow.
You want the exhaust gasses to have as straight of an exit as possible.

Make sure the manifold flange is machined flat before you install it, some of the cast manifolds have been known to warp overtime as well though.

With some manifolds, the wastegate is mounted closer to the exhaust, with a pipe running from the manifold to the wastegate. Works great. Spa, boostlogic and others do this because there really is not room to mount it to the manifold. The engine bay is too tight. An exception is the twinscroll steedspeed manifold, which is very compact and puts the wastegate on top of the manifold, but it is a very tight fit.

Thanks, so far good info. I just wonder if the valve can fit on any of these manifolds or do they need a pipe to extend. I saw the Steedspeed. Everything is still tight. I guess with any of the options, I'll still need to get under the car to adjust it, or a remote boost controller?

Basic, proven solution is SPA with a relocation pipe for the wastegate. Then put a base spring in and use boost control solenoid to adjust higher. You'd should 't need to get under the car to up boost pressure. I would recommend one of the gauges with fauisafe and boots control. Allows for some peace of mind and a single gauge and touch point.

If you are after more performance, spool, or twin scroll, go steedspeed, hut same principle with boots control.

The Eboost controller in the gauge is popular. You can go 50% past spring pressure no problem. 100% might be too much.
