Im thinking of picking up a M5 but wanted to know what problems are common on these? I was debating on the 535i for fuel economy but Ive always been a M owner and still am. Anyways I know that the E60's had bearing issues which I believe are not an issue with these F10's but would like confirmation. What major issues would someone like me expect and how difficult is it to work on? The motor looks intimidating but I am mechanically inclined by far no expert but DIY for sure.
Any feedback would be great. Thanks in advance!
I bough my M5 on impulse. Car was clean and had a good history. I figured why not.
6months later Ive done about 7000miles and couldn't be happier.
I had it a week and did a stage 1 tune with intake. This transformed the car completely.
It's now running a stage 2 with no cats and it's making over 1000nm. Open road i can still do about 25mpg but on average is see about 17mpg in town.
I ruined it for me. There are very few cars that I can upgrade to interms of performance.
I love the thing.

Thank you for the response. Have you ran into any issues since owning it?
They are solid for the most part... Just typical M maintenance. Oil change at dealer is expensive (about $300) unless you DIY which I'm going to do next time and make a video for it... I'll post it here.
I have put around 12k miles on mine and so far no problems... Drove it across country with no issues... just bully people on the road haha.
I'm going to post a video for CarPlay module in a minute... It's a great upgrade. I would suggest to not tune the car to keep the risk of breaking down very low... Plus the car has lots of power I don't know why people modify it! Mine barely has traction if I floor it.
Anyways, try to get a 2014 with competition package... It makes a difference.
Is a 2013 M5 with 97000 miles a risky purchase.
If your technically incline I don’t think it would be that bad. But buying lower is always better.
