    Removing the GM module, help

I've removed all the screws and bolts I can see. The metal tray is loose on the left, but tighter on the right. Is there a hidden Bolt on the right? I've looked at pictures on the tread about removal but I only see one Bolt on the right on my car. Any help appreciated.

Are you talking about the tray holding the modules? You do not that out.

Did you remove bolster or is that what you mean?

I'm confused. I thought you had to take the metal tray off to get to the modules. Looking at the thread from 2012 on GM repairs, the pictures show the tray out. Looking up, I can't even see The modules. In front of the metal tray there is a black plastic cover, does that come out? Yes, the knee bolster is off.

The knee booster is aluminum and stretches across underneath the steering wheel. The module ray is plastic and held in with two nuts. You remove the nuts (10mm socket) and lower the tray with the three modules in it - makes it a lot easier to pull the GenMod.

I've looked at that video and pictures over and over. On the second picture, he shows where the screws and bolts are. I only found 3 bolts. The one I think is hiding is the upper bolt on the right side. I'll look again Monday and see if I can find more. And if that is the bolt, then it's covered up by the dash covering material. Until then, cheers.

I'm at it again. I found my 4th bolt. It hidden above the lower bolt on the right but it's above it and behind the dashpad. I can see it, but when I put the socket on it either just turns of the socket isn't on it squarely. The cash won't budge much and I can't remove just that small piece. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks. Hey hey, finally out. I know which bolt isn't going back in.

I see all the modules now and have unhooked the colored plugs going in. Now, what is the best way to get the middle one out? Seems like the wires are going to be in the way. Also, is there a tab on each end of the module?

New update, 5pm. It's out and ready to ship. I guess some of my hesitation at times was caused by not wanting to break anything. But a few good yanks and tugs gets it done. Now the big question is will the repair fix all my gremlins. Thanks everyone. Film at 11,( that's for you old guys).

Slide the lower one out of the tray...then pull out the one above...gently move the wires out of the way...I cut one of the tie wraps that held the bundle to the chassis so it was less stress on the wiring to move.

Thanks to all who have helped. It went in smooth. Question: my window does not come down as before. It takes a second to come down, and it hangs up just a bit? Any ideas.p

Still not coming down. When I close the door the window goes up, but not when I pull on the handle. Oh well, I'll keep trying.

Watch the video above - there are two separate microswitches for the outside handle and the inside handle. When you lift the outside handle or pull the inside handle two things should happen - the interior lights come ON and the window should drop - if neither happens blame the switches not the GM

Thanks Timm, good video. My window does work from the inside now, just not the outside. Would you suggest changing out the switch or just unplugging it like in the video?

That will be the door handle mechanism failing as they all do. I bet yours is like mine and the microswitch does not close correctly when the door handle is NOT being pulled. When this happens the glass will raise correctly when the door is closed but will fail to drop it when the outside handle is lifted.

I was having a look at mine just a couple of hours ago because, as I said in the video, the drivers window does not drop sometimes - but it does others. It works out that the handle (because the pot-metal innards are disintegrating) does not fully come to the rest position and the microswitch does not close. I can actually hear mine - with the handle let go, I can poke the handle further downwards and I can gear the microswitch click.

As long as I get it to do that the window drops when I lift the handle again - and if I don't push the handle fully down it is ignored and the window stays up until the door starts moving. Anyway, go out and have a listen, you should be able to hear the microswitch......
