Hi, I just bought a 2017 330i from a buddy of mine and he hands me the keys and says "just keep putting in extra thick oil in it and yer good!" ..I said , "why does it have a leak?!!! I just paid you for the car dude, why didn't you tell me this before?"
He laughed and said, "nahhh, it will run better, get more protection and last longer". I shrugged and drove off to my house.
So now I am thinking, should I stick with the same "thicker" oil my friend was using, or go to my favorite brand which I used for years in my other cars:

Will I have any consequences, such as did the engine get used to the thicker oil and now I am going to put the above synthetic oil that is recommended for my BMW?
scratching my head here, I could not find answers to this online so I posted here. Not sure what to do.
Thanks!
Which thicker oil is seller recommending?
Should of had it checked out first, have the leaks diagnoised if it has any
Put what BMW recommends in the engine. 0w-20

Does he know more about lubrication, than the PhD engineers and tribologists, that designed the engine and specified the oil grades & viscosities?
well, to give anyone more infos -I know, I am not too active in this section, but the oil viscosity applies to any engine-
