Good morning from a first time user. I have a 2003 X5 3.0 When I accelerate sharply from a stop, I get a slip feeling followed by a clunk. It's like something moves/slips/rotates for a very short distance and hits a stop. When I accelerate slowly or easy, no slip or clunk. It only happens once(no chatter or clicking) and only lasts a second but it is quite pronounced. I have no vibrations or other noises. Is this something you guys and girls have experienced and hopefully repaired?
Sounds like the transfer case to me.

rear wheel slippage activates the transfercase to move torque to the front driveline. Check your driveshafts and axles for play. No dash lights?
I would check the plastic gears in the transfer case actuator motor, very common wear issues
