I'm going to be very interested in seeing these work on your car Phil. Maybe I should throw mine in at stock timing and we can compare idle and driveability and stuff like that.

The 264/256 set with the blocks idled at 16-17 “Hg and 19-20 “Hg at the adjusted setting.

I found the angles for the top of the Schrick cam squares relative to the valve cover surface. Assuming that the squares are square the numbers jive (+/-).

Perfect, the angles at the camshaft are 1/2 of the actual lobe center angle change so twice your numbers would be 3 deg retard on the intake and 9 degrees advanced exhaust as my tools are marked. I have these ready for whoever wants to try this timing. Just PM me.

The above link has some good information on camshafts, cam timing, how to read lobe profiles, etc. On the site it also lists out the cams available for the various engines and gives full details of what the profiles and lobe centers are for the different grinds.

So has anyone else tried these new timings on their 264/256? Before and after would be nice.... Interested in throwing a set in my car but not being the tester.

I remember sending out a couple sets of blocks for these settings, but I didn't get any feedback. I would love to hear any results good or bad.

Seems good to me but I have no way to data log so I can’t confirm Chikinhed’s measurement of slightly less time to boost. I wish I could say my butt dyno was well enough calibrated. I was not expecting anything dramatic — my car is already pretty responsive with 3.2L, 0.92 EFR 9180, twinscroll Steedspeed, eBoost, and mild Schrick 264/256. I certainly won’t be setting cam timing back to stock.

FYI i bought a set of Perry's blocks and will be trying them out on my GT35R M3 once the engine is done at the machine shop and i have time to gap rings, re-assemble, re-install, etc.

I plan on timing it with the blocks to start, and can get idling vacuum numbers if that helps, but then I will be taking it to the dyno for troubleshooting. once running right, i'll retard the exhaust 8 degrees and advance intake 4 degrees. will try to report results. thanks again Perry and all that contributed!

Often I find a reduction in power is easier to feel than an increase.

Any more impressions after driving some more? Worthwhile mod or should people leave them at stock timing?

I feel like him saying "I certainly won't be setting cam timing back to stock" as a worth while mod, but then again it could be my optimistic interpretation. Could be "not worth doing it again"

I trust Chikinhed’s testing, which showed an improvement in spool. He and I both have built S52s with Schrick 264/256, twinscroll steedspeeds and EFR9180s. Unfortunately, I do not have a baseline dyno that I could compare to or data logs. My car was already very responsive and my butt dyno simply is not well enough calibrated to notice. I certainly don’t think it’s any worse and based on Chikinhed’s testing believe it is better. I have no plans to change timing back.

Someone else with data logging ability or a baseline dyno could give a better review. Maybe someone with a laggy turbo would be able to notice a difference without any testing. Probably the results would vary depending on the turbo, the motor, the manifold, etc. And this cam setting is what Chikinhed found worked best for Schrick 264/256 through degrees g various settings and data logging. Other cams might require different settings.

I wonder how these would work on Luke’s (Gt35rM3) old setup, which is mine now. I need to look up all the old data. But, I think they were M3jasper’s custom setup that he marketed while he was selling built short & long blocks.
