Pulled the 8 out of hibernation and after letting it run for about 15 minutes I noticed the dreaded puddle under the car on the passenger side rear seat. I replaced the fuel pump ring and seal about 8 months ago, so I decided to pull the rear seat off and inspect.
Sure enough its puddling around the seal and then dripping onto the ground. I wiped away all the fuel, and started the car again. After about 10-15 minutes it starts to puddle again around the seal.
Next, I took off the lines and connectors, removed the ring, put a little bit of Vaseline around the gasket and then re-tightened the ring using the proper fuel pump ring tool.
Everything went back on good and tight, but after running the car for about 10-15 minutes it leaks again.
Any ideas? I do notice quite a bit of air rush out when I open the fuel cap.
It sounds very similar to the popular thread on this forum about the problem being the return valve found in the passenger wheel well. Any ideas on what else to check before I try to hunt down a hard to find return valve?
Thanks
How tight is tight? What lock ring tightening tool is used? When I replaced my pump, seal, and ring a few years back, it leaked gas fumes. I had to go back and tighten a few more turns (had assumed it was tight enough) and problem solved. These rings requires quite amount of torque to be adequately tightened. A tool designed for the job makes everything quite a bit easier. I used the billet aluminum version using a 1/2” socket wrench.
Think the Nissan valve is the only option available now. Bought one awhile back and waiting to be installed.

I use this tool, but I'll definitely double check on the tightness. In the meantime do you have a part number for the Nissan valve; just in case.

Adapting Nissan valve 6mm connections to the standard 8x13mm hoses. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07KV...b_b_asin_title This 1/4x5/16” hose is a semi rigid plastic resin fuel resistant hose. Think it’s a better solution than force fitting a 6mm id hose onto the standard 8x13 lines.

Are you certain it is the seal?
These carriers are notorious for leaking at the 3-prong electrical connector, which looks like the seal is leaking.
Tale a closer look to be certain. If it is leaking at the connector, there is absolutely NO long term fix for this, it has been tried with countless different glues and sealants over the years with ALL of them ultimately failing.

100% it was around the seal. I was watching it very closely.
I did however take M6csi’s advice and check it again for tightness. Sure enough it did about another good 1/4 turn. I think I was scared I might crack the plastic housing the first time around.
Needless to say, I ran it for a good 30 minute drive, turn it off, ran it again, and no leaks!! I do, however still get a loud hiss when I open the gas cap. Wondering if I should swap out that valve in the wheel well anyways.
The hiss is normal, mines been doing it for almost 15 years
